Donostia-San Sebastian. Eusko Ikaskuntza has opened nominations of the 8th edition of the ENE Saria, which was created as part of the International Day of Euskera celebration whose goal is to recognize work done by entities outside of the Basque Country in favor of the Basque language. Winners of prior editions follow:
-2012. Unión Vasca Association. Bahía Blanca, Argentina
-2011. Madrid Euskal Etxea. Madrid, Spain
-2010. Sustraiak-Erroak Elkartea. París, France
-2009. North American Basque Organizations (N.A.B.O.).USA
-2008. Bordeleko Euskal Etxea. Bordeaux, France
-2007. Bartzelonako Euskal Etxea. Barcelona, Catalonia
-2006. Artaburu Euskaltzale Elkartea. Mar de Plata, Argentina
The call for nominations is now open and free. Anyone can nominate an entity that is worthy of the prize, enclosing a letter that details its merits.
Anyone organization outside of the Basque Country that works for the promotion of Euskera is eligible ; promotion meaning, effort in disseminating the language and its expression through teaching, written literature, oral literature, film and other creation.
Deadline is right around the corner
The deadline for nominations is soon, Monday November 25, at midnight (Basque Country time). If you have a nomination in mind, hurry to submit it!
Nominating is as easy as writing to Euskosare (info@euskosare.org) with the name of the entity and a summary of the activities carried out that make it worthy. The submission should not be longer than 5 pages providing information that the jury will find interesting such as: foundation date of the organization, annual activities having to do with Basque; and where appropriate number of students learning Basque, or number of publications; distinctions and awards, etc.
Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna (ENE)
The name of the winning entity will be announced on the International Day of Euskera. The prize consists of public recognition as well as a reproduction of the logo in iron and stainless steel designed for ENE by Nestor Basterretxea.
Besides the award, Eusko Ikaskuntza has also launched other initiatives with regard to the December 3rd festivities, including “Euskara Pil-pilean.” This is a joint initiative with Mintzanet that invites people all over the world to practice Basque conversation online. Eusko Ikaskuntza will raffle various gifts among those who enroll before December 2nd. Come join in!
