Beginning in mid-March after maintenance and improvements are made, the Mendoza Basque club will open the doors to its cancha to provide players with the better conditions for their games. The official inauguration is another step forward and will take place on April 5th in conjunction with the Aberri Eguna festivities with an exhibition game.
Mendoza, Argentina. The 2015 program of activities of the Denak Bat is just beginning and with it comes some very good news. The remodeling and improvement work has concluded on the club’s fronton and it is ready to open its doors again.
As club sources explained to EuskalKultura.com, “work on the cancha included polishing the floor, painting and marking the boundaries and now it is ready to be used without any danger to the players.” “It is ready for upcoming activities that will be open to kids of all ages to play ‘One wall.’ Adrian Astorga, world runner-up in this discipline, will be in charge,” according to the club president, Alicia Aguirre. “The fronton is now ready to be used and its official inauguration won’t take place until April with an exhibition match as part of the Aberri Eguna (Day of the Basque Homeland) festivities.”
“One Wall,” (Frontball) is mostly played in Iparralde and is growing in followers around the world. Currently, it is part of the International Federation of Basque Pelota and in Argentina it is mainly played in Mendoza and Parana.
Basque classes
Along with this news, the club let us know that this year’s Basque classes will begin this week. Classes will be held on Saturdays for advanced students, time to be determined, and beginning classes will be held on Tuesdays from 5-7:30pm.
