The Zingiratko Euskaldunak Basque Club in Chascomus has opened the application period for the 2016 edition of Udaleku or Basque summer camp.  The event will be held from January 5-9 and is aimed at youth between the ages of 12 and 16 inclusive.  The deadline to apply is December 20 and cost of the vouchers can be found out via email. 

Chascomus, Argentina.   We are coming to the end of the year and in South America the beginning of summer vacations.  This is why the Chascomus Basque club has opened the invitation directed especially to adolescents in the Basque clubs to come spend a few days enjoying the Basque culture as they do year-round.

Udaleku 2016 will take place from January 5-9 and will include a wide range of activities similar to those offered in prior editions.  As Paula Berasain, one of the camp directors, explained to EuskalKultura.com, “there will be sports, games, cooking, mythology and Basque; but with new activities, the fruit of advice provided by Valerie Etcharren Arrechea, NABO’s Udaleku chairperson, as well as NABO's president, after talking with her at the World Congress of Basque Communities, as well as during my participation at Gaztemundu.”

In regards to instructors, the majority will be members of the hosting club.  Nevertheless, they will also include, Eneko Lizarra from Donostia who also participated in the first Udaleku in Chascomus.  “Eneko will come on his own; and this is our goal in the future, to have it work like the Hator Hona program organized by Necochea Basque club.  In this program, each instructor pays their way from the Basque Country and then we provide room and board during their stay.  We still aren’t sure if we will have another instructor form the Basque Country,” the dancer said.

As every year, Zingirako Euskaldunak will create a voucher worth the total cost of the event.  The price can be requested via email: udalekuchascomus@hotmail.com.  Once the information is received, a deposit should be made to the Province of Buenos Aires Bank using the following information:
