Boise, Idaho mayor, Dave Bieter, won the elections and will be in office for another four years. He got 68.8% of the votes, almost three times more than his political opponent Judy Peavey-Derreta who got 26.4%. With these four consecutive victories, Dave H. Bieter made history, since it’s the first time in almost 125 years that a Boise mayor has been elected four times in a row. The last politician achieving that in the capital city of Idaho was James A. Pinney, in 1891.
Boise, ID. Boise mayor Dave H. Bieter is about to start his fourth four-year term after winning this past weekend’s elections. The Basque-American obtained almost 70% of the votes, much more than his closest political opponent, Judy Peavey-Derreta that got less than 27%. As Idaho Statesman reported, taxes have been one of the hottest topics of the campaign and voters have backed Mr. Bieter’s program−a two-year and $10 million levy that will “raise money for open space protection and water quality projects.”
Mr. Bieter has not just won the elections, he has also carved his name a little deeper in the state’s history by becoming the first mayor in almost 125 years that has won four consecutive elections, four-year terms each. The last politician achieving such a thing in Boise was James A. Pinney, in 1891. However, Bieter is not the only successful politician of Basque descent in Idaho. The late Peter Cenarrusa (1917-2013) still holds the honor of being the most elected Idaho politician ever−during his long career, he held different public positions for 52 years. Unlike Cenarrusa, who was a Republican, Bieter is a member of the Democratic Party.
