Bariloche, Argentina. For Basque clubs in Patagonia, and for others in Argentina, attending Semana Nacional Vasca means overcoming obstacles of distance that implies hours of travel even sometimes more than 12 hours by bus, plus the expense of that travel. In Bariloche the Mendiko Eusko Etxea didn’t want to miss out, so it came up with an original way to fundraise: making pizza. The club’s dantzaris, along with some women from the organization held a “pizzeada” (pizza party) and prepared 270 pizzas successfully.
According to Federico Ezquerra, in regards to the club’s youth, “Even if the group is bigger, we hope to be able to travel with at least 20 adult dancers. The goal is to raise enough money. We will most likely hold another pizza party in the beginning of October.”
Additionally, Semana Nacional, November 8-10th coincides this year with the Festival of European-Argentine Collectivities in Bariloche, and event that the Mendiko Eusko Etxea has also participated in. This is why all the groups, txikis, intermediates and adults will be attending Semana Vasca this year as to also perform at the Collectivities Festival.
