From January 16-February 17, dantzari and txistulari Patxi Perez will be in Argentina, where he will teach workshops on Basque dance at any and all clubs that would like him to. Perez is an expert in this type of workshop and popular dances such as “mutxikoak,” along with his group Patxi eta Konpainia. “A friend invited me and my wife to come to Patagonia, and we decided to take advantage of the trip to do workshops at Basque clubs. With dance groups, members, and children and even at the euskaltegis, united dance and euskera…there are many possibilities.” We let tell you how you can have this expert at your club too.
Baiona, Lapurdi. Basque clubs in Argentina will have a wonderful opportunity in the coming months to learn and get to know Basque dances at the hands of dantzari Patxi Perez. Perez is an expert in cultural animation through dance and has toured Basque Country plazas with his group Patxi eta Konpainia teaching workshops on popular dances, such as “mutxikoak.” These types of dances are open to everyone, including those who don’t know how to dance at all. Step by step, Patxi will guide them through the dances, resulting in everyone dancing fandangos, jauzis, mazurcas…and having a great time in the process.
“My wife and i will take a txirula and will tour Argentina. It is an all-terrain instrument; it’s all you need to accompany the dances. We will be at the Danborrada in Necochea, and will end in Patagonia,” the dantzari told EuskalKultura.com. The workshops are dedicated to dance groups, unexperienced dancers, children and Basque students…It can be a great opportunity to give Basque dance visibility at events that are open to the public.
Euskera and dantza
It will also be a great opportunity to unite Basque and dance, “We will have to do everything in Basque !” he says. It will be a beautiful thing for Basque to be the mode of communication in the middle of Argentina. In any case, Patxi assures that it will be easy to communicate through dance. “With dance everything is more easily understood. All you need are your feet and music to communicate,” he says.
If you would like to organize a workshop in your club you will have a wonderful opportunity as part of the Semana Vasca in La Plata. Aitor Alava is there and the director of Eusko Diaspora, Maialen Zanponi who are gathering requests and proposals for potential classes. If you can’t be in La Plata you can contact Patxi Perez directly via email: (patxi.konpania@wanadoo.fr) or Aitor Alava (alava.aitor@gmail.com).
