Rosario, Argentina. Having become one of the largest festival in the city and surrounding area, the National Festival of Communities in Rosario celebrated its 32nd edition this year. At its traditional spot, and with the Parana River in the background, the festival once again gathered different communities in the city sharing the art, customs and culture of each with each other.
Over ten days, the communities are in charge of food/cultural stands as well as performing music and dance on the festival stages. Nearly 50 groups attended the event his year including the Centro Navarro and the Zazpirak Bat Basque Club.
Centro Navarro Participation
Members and friends of the Navarran center in Rosario have participated in the festival since its first edition in 1985. Following tradition, this year they also had a txoko with typical dishes as well as performing dances on the main stage. Among the novelties, the club also had a queen candidate, Pilar López Virgili, who was presented as part of its performance. Pilar, accompanied on the accordion by Joel Moraglio, sang Ruiseñor quisiera ser among other songs (see video here).
In regards to the dantzaris, they performed last Saturday with all three groups, txikis, intermediates and adults, they will return to the stage tomorrow starting at 9pm.
Zazpirak Bat
Thanks to the club’s dantzaris, the txikis from Gure Haziak and the adults from Gaztedi Zutik, the local Basque club was also represented at the festival. The txikis performed last Saturday. Directed by Maite Echazu and Rodrigo Mendia, with the collaboration of Oriana Parachu and Javier Bilbado, the smallest of the club performed Danza del Escudo, Fandango and Arin Arin.
The adults were supposed to perform last Wednesday, but had to postpone until Monday, November 14th at 9pm. They will dance witht after coming from Necochea where they will participate in Semana Vasca. The youth directed by Ignacio Sarmiento will perform Martxa-Polka, Brokel Dantza, Arcos Mixtos, Fandango and Arin Arin.
