Chascomus, Argentina. The city of Chascomus, in the province of Buenos Aires, was again the site for an interesting program of Basque activities as part of Udaleku or Summer Camp organized by the local Basque club, Zingirako Euskaldunak, in the beginning days of 2015.
The event gathered youth from clubs in Maipu, Macachin and Chascomus, and a group linked to the local Basque club in Florencio Varela, that was similar to previous editions and was qualified by its organizers to have been a very positive experience for all.
As Maria Laura Eguren told EuskalKultura.com, “once again we feel like we met the goals of Udaleku: to create strong ties among the youth of the community from a Basque theme (culture, sports, food, music, herri kirolak…) and all of this on a basis of mutual respect, values and collaboration.”
“In addition,” she explained, “this is the first time that the club organized Udaleku counting solely on its own devises, that is to say, without receiving any grants; but we counted on the involvement of many people that selflessly worked to make this possible. The work of the local chaperones is worth highlighting, since they all have much experience with this event and the participation of Joseba Bergaretxe, who worked with us from the Delegation of the Basque Government, and Maitane Andueza, who is a friend of the club, whose contributions, especially in Basque and music were greatly appreciated. I would also like to stress the participation of Txemi Alonso, from Sagardi who traveled here graciously to teach a workshop.”
It would be impossible to report all the activities held over the five days, as well as all the photos taken, however many are gathered here in a video . Nevertheless, we have gathered some images of Udaleku 2015 that will encourage new and returning participants to attend next year’s event.
