Villa Mercedes, Argentina. As a way to celebrate the 10 years since its creation, the choir, the Camerata de la Luna, will open this year performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata. Actus Tragicus BWV 106, at both concerts performed in San Luis and Villa Mercedes.
In this way, and after almost completing their entire program for 2013, the group is now preparing to give their two most important concerts of the year, which includes a reduced version of the Requiem in D Minor by Mozart, accompanied by organ for four hands instead of by an orchestra.
From the Camerata itself, they stress that “the cultural importance of performing a concert like this in San Luis and Villa Mercedes is, on the one hand, that it will be the first time that this repertoire is heard in the province and on the second, the fact that we are involving local and neighboring artists in our performance.”
Accompanying the singers are musicians from Mendocino: Jimena Sémiz (soprano), Verónica Montiveros (mezzosoprano), Cristian Mella (tenor), Fernando Lázari (baritone), and Cristian Canaviri and Sebastián Zabala (organists). Also performing the Requiem with the Camerata will be the Polifónico Choir Santa Lucía from San Luis, directed by Gabriel Cornejo, with the musical assistance of Luciano Escudero.
Tribute Concert
The projection of the performance exceeds, in this case, the choir’s anniversary and includes an artistic event as such. The Requiem, is indeed a mass for the deceased and will also be performed this weekend to commemorate the two year anniversary of the tragedy that occurred at the Saint Maria School in San Luis where a train collided with a school bus transporting students, resulting in eight deaths, two adults and six children. In the words of francisco Mensa, artistic director of the event: “At the suggestion of the Minister of Education, Dr. Marcelo Sosa, we are giving this concert in memory and tribute to the victims of the Zanjitas tragedy that occurred two years ago. We have made this cause our own because we will never forget that terrible event and we hope to raise a prayer for their souls through singing.”
The event in San Luis will take place tomorrow, Saturday November 2, at 21:00 at the Nuestra Señora del Trono Church (San Martín y 25 de Mayo). The concert in Villa Mercedes will take place on Sunday the 3rd also at 21:00, at the San Roque Church. The event is free and open to the public.
