Palma de Mallorca, Spain. On October 14-15 the Artea Euskal Etxea in Mallorca celebrated its second annual music festival “Trobada de Musiques del Nord,” a gathering of musicians from the north in the heart of the Balearic Island. Repeating last year’s collaborations, the Basque group Dangiliske traveled to Palma to transport traditional Basque dances to the island.
The festival began on Friday, the 14th with a concert by the Dangiliske and Talam (Celtic music), at the Bunyola Plaza. The event was attended by some 70 people according to Basque club sources.
On Saturday, the activities began at noon with a kalejira with Dangiliske through the streets of the city, especially on Fabrica Street. “The kalejira wasn’t very successful because it is not typical to do such activities here, and the people thought it was strange,” Eva Rodrigues, club member told EuskalKultura.com. “Nevertheless, we are satisfied because we were able to publicize the afternoon’s event.”
In the afternoon, the main Trobada concert began at 6:30pm in the Sa Feixina Plaza in Palma. Four groups played there: Anaquiños (Galician), Talamh (Celtic), Dangiliske (Basque) and the local group Big Yuyu. The concert was attended by some 150 people with great ambience. “From the first moment, the dancing circle (mutxikoak) was almost bigger than the plaza itself,” Rodriguez said. “Last year the event was also very successful. Here these type of dances aren’t typical and people really appreciate the opportunity to be able to dance and participate.”
