Envigado, Colombia. The Basque Country was the guest country on August 9th at the “Trips Around the World,” initiative that took place on the Pasaje de la Alcaldia in Envigado. The program included various exhibitions, exhibits and presentations about the Basques as well as their present and historic contribution to Antioquia. The event included several talks, exhibitions, and a musical and dance performance by local groups Txakoli, Macondo and Kordazero.

The event began at 4pm and enjoyed special collaboration of the Gure Mendietakoak Basque Club based in Caldas, as well as that of the Center for Basque Studies in Antioquia. Jose Miguel Ramirez spoke about “Our Basque ancestors, the oldest people of Europe," and John Alejandro Ricaurte on “Basque immigrants in Antioquia.” The program also had a photo exhibit, and included Chef Sahara Velazquez who gave a pintxo demonstration, offering music performances by the groups Txakoli and Kordazero as well as the Macondo dancers.
