Ceremony, tributes, and selection of the Queen and cantina at Coronel Pringles to celebrate Immigrant Day

Coronel Pringles once again recognized the immigrants who came to the this Argentine city and its area and did so with a program of activities that included the presence of authorities and a large audience.  The local Euskal Etxea guaranteed a Basque presence at the official ceremony, raising an Ikurriña, as well as at the cantina and during the Queen selection, presenting its candidate.  Among those honored was a Basque, former Mayor Joaquín Ricardo De Aduriz.

Coronel Pringles, Argentina.  The activities for the 37th edition of the Day of the Immigrant Festivities began in Coronel Pringles on September 4th with an official event in front of the Monument where the communities are honored.  There were Germans, Belgians, Chilean, Spanish, French, Israelis, Italians, Lebanese, Swiss and Basque all dressed in their traditional costumes and carrying their respective flags.

Also attended by local authorities, during the ceremony each flag was raised along with that of Argentina, and bouquets were also laid at the foot of the monument.  In the same way, each group presented their queen candidate to the Queen of the Collectivities 2016 Contest.  The Basque club’s candidate was Martina Iturralde.

After the ceremony, everyone present moved to the Rotary House where some citizens were recognized, local neighbors, for their careers and contributions to the community.  In regards to the Basque community, the distinction fell on Joaquín Ricardo De Aduriz, for having served as a councilman and mayor, as well as for having written El Caballero de Baztan, (The Knight of Baztan) based on his family’s history.

Cantina for Day of the Immigrant

Continuing with the program of activities, on Saturday, September 10th, there was a Cantina for Immigrant Day at the “Martin Iribertegui” room in the “El Fogon de los Gauchos” space.  As every year, the communities provided their typical dishes and dances for the audience.

The festivities concluded with the selection of the Queen of the Collectivities.  Pilar Martinez from the Spanish Community was the winner of the scepter.
