Vitoria-Gasteiz. During the crisis that everyone around the world is experiencing due to the Coronavirus, the Directorate for the Basque Community Abroad has made a call for everyone to scrupulously respect all measures of prevention and protection that are being adopted in each country by their respective governments, stressing that the Basque Government continues to develop its 2020 activity normally, in regards to its three main public programs for Basque clubs, individuals in extreme need and Gaztemundu that are progressing at a good pace.
In regards to grants for Basque clubs, a letter signed by Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, Director of the Basque Community Abroad indicates that a request for “additional documentation required in each case if necessary,” will be sent soon. Regarding aid for people in dire need, he explains that “next week the call will go through the Governing Council, after which, it will be published in the shortest delay possible.”
In regards to Gaztemundu, the 2020 edition is anticipated to take place in Vitoria-Gasteiz October 18 (arrival in Euskadi) through November 1st (departure) providing training this time in the area of Basque Gastronomy. “We are making progress on the program and hope that we can hold it as usual,” Aranburu said.
He also stresses that other programs regarding Basque clubs and communities in the world are continuing “with the maximum normalcy.” The Director of the Basque Community Abroad indicates that a part of his team is working from their offices, while other are working from home.
