“Buenos Aires Celebrates" will be on March 18th in 2017, year of the 140th anniversary of the Laurak Bat Basque Club

In 2017, the Buenos Aires Laurak Bat Basque Club will celebrate its 140th birthday and will begin it celebrating at “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” on March 18th. The festivities will continue on the following day at the club’s facilities with the presence other invited clubs.  Along with this invitation the club invites you this weekend, on Saturday, to a talk about Lehendakari Agirre followed by the celebration of Dantzari Eguna. 

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   On March 13th the Laurak Bat Basque Club, the oldest active Basque club in the Diaspora, will celebrate its 140th birthday. It will celebrate all year long with a full program of festivities.  The inauguration of these festivities will take place in March on the 18th coinciding with the “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country’ celebration that will take place on Avenida de Mayo from noon to 6pm.  After this huge Basque exhibit, the birthday festivities will continue at the clubhouse on Belgrano Street, where the hosts will offer refreshments.

On the next day, Sunday the 19th, beginning at 11:30am, there will be a street dance performance in front of the clubhouse, by dance groups from various Argentine Basque clubs to accompany Laurak Bat in its celebration.  Later, at 1pm, an anniversary lunch will be served.

October activities

While it is getting ready for the big birthday celebration, the Club also sends invitations for upcoming weekends.  This Saturday, October 15th at 7:30pm Dr. Jose Gabriel Anitua will give a talk on the 80th Anniversary of the Government of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre.  After the talk at 9:00pm Dantzari Eguna will be celebrated.  Admission is $180 and the menu includes pizza, empanadas, txistorra and ice cream (beverages are not included).  Organizers encourage everyone to come ready to dance, “with alpargatas in hand.”

On October 22, the invitation is aimed at the txikis and their families.  Txiki Eguna will begin at 5:00pm and will include other activities, dancing, music, Mus, food and games.  A snack will also be provided, and to conclude the event, the group Ixilik will play.
