Rosario, Argentina. An academic work on the processes of migration between Navarre and Argentina, from an historic and socio-demographic perspective will be presented next Tuesday at the College of Political Science at the National University of Rosario. Entitled, The Collectivity of Navarrese Origin in Argentina: The Navarrese Centers as a Meeting Place specialists Dr. Sagrario Anaut (PUN) and Mg. Mariana B. Garcia (NUR), have gathered in this publications various testimonies and conclusions that treat the flows of migration between Argentina and Navarre over the last century and a half. It also treats the forms of organization adopted by the Navarran community in the country, its memory and identity, as well as return processes. For this, the group of specialists coordinated by Anaut and Garcia carried out a rigorous process of data gathering on both sides of the ocean, in family homes as well as at Navarrese, Basque and Spanish clubs.
In regards to the methodology used to gather the data, Mariana B. Garcia explained to EuskalKultura.com that “we combined research techniques, traditional, ethnographic, in depth interviews, oral stories, registers and surveys.” “In my case, I took care of the material available in Argentina and so I visited the Basque and Navarran clubs in Buenos Aires, bolivar, Mar del Plata and Rosario. In fact, and even if we began at Navarrese clubs, going to other Basque clubs greatly expanded our research. I also visited FEVA and the French Basque Club as well as got in touch with Ekin Publishing. Thanks to new technology, I was also able to contact other clubs that I could visit in person, but whose members sent material, like in the case of Cordoba, Comodoro, Rivadavia, Chaco and Tandil, among others.”
The book presentation will be done personally by its authors, Mariana B. Garcia and Dr. Sagrario Anaut who has traveled especially from Pamplona to participate in the event. Among the invited guests are representatives from the Navarrese club in Rosario and from Zazpirak Bat, including some of those who provided testimonies for the book. “After the presentation I Rosario, we may return to present the book during the second semester in Buenos Aires.” “The book is very beautiful and we are very proud of the result and are anxious to introduce it,” Garcia told EuskalKultura.com. She also referred to the second part of her research on these themes, working especially on the cases of returning migrants to Argentina due to the economic crisis in Spain.
