Boise, ID, USA. With a simple ceremony with txistulari and an Aurresku paying tribute, the renovated Basque Mural on the Basque Block was re-inaugurated. Situated in a privileged spot, looking down Capitol Boulevard, it reflects an allegory of the Basques and their presence in Idaho. Since its original inauguration in 2000, the paint had deteriorated prompting the City Council to agree to its renovation that was coordinated by the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise.
In reality, the mural inaugurated yesterday is identical to the original, but it now can withstand the elements better.
This work, popularly known as “The Basque Mural,” was painted by a group of artists know as The Letterheads, two members of which also participated in the renovation.
