Bilbao, Bizkaia. It was the first meeting between the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, and the Basque club representative from Colombia, Beñat Matesanz, who even if living in Colombia is currently visiting his hometown of Gorliz, Bizkaia. There were various points to discuss during the two-hour meeting in regards to activities planned for the Basque club; including two that can be specified shortly.
On the one hand, the Bogota Basque Club has a new group of individuals who want to learn Euskera and Alvarez Aranburu explained to Matesanz the options that exist currently, including both face-to-face and virtual options through the Etxepare Basque Institute.
On the other, in regards to activities, they mentioned one of the most unique celebrations that some Basque clubs carry out and that the Bogota club wishes to promote, the Tamborrada of Donostia, on January 20th. The Basque Government representative offered to collaborate by sending material.
Matesanz was satisfied with the results of the meeting. They also talked about the current situation in Colombia as well as the future of the Basque club along with Matezanz’s role there.
