Basques in San Francisco celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the BCC and a half century of the San Francisco Klika

Basques in San Francisco are preparing for a grand festival this weekend of February 15 to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Basque Cultural Center (BCC) and the 50th anniversary of the San Francisco Klika. The list of events includes Basque pilota exhibits, with Euskadi Federation players, live music, dancing and a ceremony for the recipients of the Bizi Emankorra award: Betty Alzugarai, Mary Curutchet and Suzanne Elicetche.

February 15 and 16 the Basque community in the greater San Francisco area will meet at the BCC to celebrate the foundation’s 32nd anniversary. This year’s festival is especially significant as it will also be celebrating the musical and dance group, the San Francisco Klika, which has had an active presence in Basque festivals of the region for 50 years.

The BCC has released the program for the weekend, and events will be as follows:

Saturday, Feb. 15

·       2:00 pm – Group photo of the 50th anniversary of Klika  

·       3:00 pm – Pala with the San Francisco junior players

·       4:00 pm – Joko Garbi with players from Kapito Harri Uztaritze: Bruno Irachabal, Pantxo Lissar, Peio Godrie y Eneko Sarratia.

·       5:00 pm – Esku Pilota with Euskadi Federation players: Urbieta, Azpiri, Perez e Irusta. 

·       6:30 pm – Barbeque

·       8:00 pm – Dancing with music from Ketxo

Sunday, Feb. 16:

·       10:00 am – Basque Mass celebrated by Father Lastiri, with the Elgarrekin Choir, Klika, Txistulari y Zazpiak Bat Dancers, and presentation of the 2014 Bizi Emankorra Award

·       1:00 pm – Barbeque

·       4:00 pm – Joko Garbi with players from Kapito Harri

·       5:00 pm – Esku Pilota with Euskadi Federation players
