This last weekend was a busy one in the Basque communities in the west. The Chino Basque club in California hosted Begiz Begi, while Reno, NV and Gooding, ID celebrated their annual Basque picnics. Even though the main attraction, for many was the soccer match between Athletic Bilbao and the Xolos from Tijuana in Boise, Idaho which we write about in a separate article. Here’s a video of Gooding’s Basque festival.
Gooding, Idaho. Gooding is an hour and a half by car from Boise, heading east, on interstate 84. It has a Basque clubhouse that includes a roomy and modern facility located on Euskadi Lane, next to the County Museum. As every year, the Gooding Basque club celebrated its 34th annual festival in the sunshine, and with the dancers and musicians of the Oinkari Basque Dancers from Boise.
