Basque youth to the Diaspora: Hator Hona 2015 continues at the Necochea Basque Argentinean club

With the arrival of youth from the Basque Country, the 2015 edition of the Hator Hona exchange program supported by the city of Necochea Euzko Etxea dantzaris, has begun. As part of the event, gusts will teach workshops on various themes and will also participate in the San Ignacio events next week. 

Necochea, Argentina.   Participants in the Hator Hona 2015 program arrived on July 17 in Argentina, and according to plan they will stay here until August 9.  During their stay they will provide club members and friends workshops on various areas of Basque culture, as well as language in hopes of spreading elements of Basque culture and sharing their knowledge and experience with the locals.

With this in mind, each one of the youth is assigned a space to work with locals, depending on their skills.  In this way, and with respect to music, Miren Lekuona from Irun (Gipuzkoa) and Nebai Callejo from alegria-Dulantzi (Araba), are teaching dantzaris of all ages, while Maider Otaegi from Ibarra (Gipuzkoa), teaches the triki and pandero.  In regards to Euskera, Izaskun Igoa and Maddi del Campo from Etxarri-Aranatz (Navarre) and Añorga (Gipuzkoa) respectively, are in charge of eaching activities and language use.  Something new in 2015 is that one of the participants, Aitor Guridi from Oñate (Gipuzkoa) has joined the group to coach the club’s Basketball team.

As in prior editions, the visitors will also participate in the organization and development of Basque club activities to celebrate San Ignacio.  The program follows:

-July 31: 8am Happy Wake-up; 11am greet authorities; 11:30am offerings to the monuments to General Mariano Necochea and Don Angel Murga; noon, tribute at the Tree of Genrika; 12:30 txikiteo at the club, 7pm mass at the parish of Santa Maria del Carmen

-August 1: Dinner/dance for “San Ignacio de Loyola”

-August 7:  at 6pm, Aitona-Amonak festival.  Club grandparents are invited to hot chocolate, and cake and traditional dancing at the Euskal Etxea.  10pm, celebration of the Day of Andra Mari Zuria with traditional garlic soup for club members and friends.

Besides these activities for San Ignacio, the Necochea Basque club also invites you to the Artistic Evening that will take place on August 15 at 8pm at the clubhouse.  During the evening, dantzaris of all ages will show off what they have learned throughout the year.   Afterwards there will be a public dance with txistorras, solomillo and sandwiches.  Admission is free and open to the public.
