The Basque-Venezuelan community has been lucky lately, with various Basque descendants at the highest level.  Last week we talked about journalist, Ricardo Arambarri, and his Emmy, and today it is Asier Cazalis, from Caracas, with his group Caramelos de Cianuro (Cyanide Candies), who have been nominated for two Latin Grammys.  We will find out on November 17 if they win.

Donostia-San Sebastian.   He is a star in his country, and now his seventh album entitled 8 has gotten international recognition by the Latin Grammys, where his group Caramelos de Cianuro has been nominated in two categories: Best Pop Rock album for 8, and Best Rock Song for their song “Abismo.”

Asier Cazalis (Caracas, 1972 is founder of Caramelos de Cianuro, one of the most successful rock bands in Venezulea and Latin America.  The band is comprised of Cazalis, Miguel “El Enano,” Dario Adames, and Pavel “El Ruso” Tello.

The award ceremony will take place on November 17 in Las Vegas, and maybe we’ll see another Basque from the Diaspora on stage at one of the largest media events in the world.

Asier Cazalis is the son of Basque-Venezuelan Daniel Cazalis, mathematician, and Begoña Celaya, architect.  Asier also has a son Julen.
