The students from Gau Eskola from the Bordeaux Basque club have done a nice and usable job translating the short film, Tartalo eta Patxi artzaina, (Tartalo and Patxi the Sheepherder) into French.  The film can be seen on You Tube, in its original Basque version with French subtitles.  It is a fun way to learn about Basque mythology for French speakers, as well as being a good way for students to learn Basque at clubs in France and Quebec, for example. 

Bordeaux, France.   Students from the Gau Eskola at the Bordeaux Basque club have translated the short cartoon Tartalo eta Patxi artzaina into French, from its original Basque version.  What was an exercise for the students can now be seen on You Tube and will be a resource for non-Basque speakers to learn more about Basque mythology and the legend of Tartalo. 

The Bordeaux club is using this video to share Basque culture in its area, especially through its collaboration with the nearby school Vieux Bordeaux, and its first and second year students.  In September, the Zenbat Gara Association in Bilbao taught a Basque instrument workshop to these students as part of the Heritage Days celebration.  And last December, on the International Day of Euskera, they enjoyed a workshop on Basque tales and Basque mythology thanks to Ixabel Millet.

According to Basque sources, now, thanks to these French subtitles, the students can fully enjoy the history, and were able to identify the instruments on the sound track (txirula, txalaparta, trikitixa…) and they also asked some questions about Basque and how it works.

The video is available on You Tube and can be another tool in Basque class in clubs in French speaking areas like France and Quebec, or for French-speaking internet users who are interested in Basque.
