Buenos Aires, Argentina. They say that one of the most outstanding features of this era is the need to be and feel in touch. The Basque Diaspora values technological advances in order to fill this need, and stay in touch, as well as shorten the distances that separate them from Euskal Herria. We see day to day how information circulates at high speed on social media, and in general online.
But continuing also with the more classic forms of communication that also use new technologies to improve quality and efficiency. In South America there are currently a total of five radio programs that are produced locally and whose contents if varies: music, information about shows, sports, politics, and news. Each program incorporates notes about Euskal Herria and its culture, and a local section, about the Basque club and the city where it is located. Even if historically, broadcasts were heard only through the local radio, with limited scope, today the trend has allowed these programs to be followed online, live, which provides listeners all over the world the opportunity to tune in, through Facebook, Twitter or email. Following is a brief description of these programs:
1) Basque Roots-Euskal Sustraiak, La Plata
Basque Roots-Euskal Sustraiak is presented by Lelio Sanchez and Iñaki Agostini Zubillaga, both students of Social Communication and members of the local Basque club. The program airs on Mondays from 18-19hs, on Alta Voz Radio, available online here: www.radioaltavoz.com.ar.

2) Basque Presence, Paraná
This program is presented by Federico Borras. Basque Presence airs every Sunday from 11-12:00 on University of Parana Radio at 105.7. You can also listen to it online through its website: www.fmuniversidad.com. With a flexible format that includes news, music, external commentators, including the distinguished participation of Mikel Ezkerro with the Basque mic, the program associated mostly with the Urrundik Basque club has been on the air for more than 25 years.

3) ‘The Basque Word-Gora Euskal Herria', Rosario
The radio program Palabra de Vasco – Gora Euskal Herria is the official voice of the Zazpirak Bat Basque Club in Rosario. Presented by Luis Maria Barrandeguy and Cristina Arregui, the program can be heard every Tuesday from 13-14hs on AM Radio Libertad Rosario (1.090 KHz) and online: http://www.amlibertad.com.ar/?p=home. The program is also available on the Basque club’s website: www.zazpirakbat.com. The main goal of the program is to share the club’s activities and to introduce the Basque culture through music, interview, news and commentary.

4) ‘Land of the Giants,” Rosario
The program is presented as “the voice of those who painfully left their noble homeland to work in the Great Homeland in America; we are the voices of their children and grandchildren…We are the voices that carry the traditions, culture, language, and customs of the bravest of all peoples. We are the voices of the men and women of the Basque Diaspora.” Tierra de Gigantes airs on Thursdays at 17hs on FM Gran Rosario Radio 88.9, and online: http://www.radiogranrosario.com.ar. For an hour, Gloria Bilbao Calcaterra shares news, views, music and recipes with her listeners.

5) ‘The Basque Club Voice, San José, Uruguay
This program is broadcast from San Jose and as the name suggests it is the Basque club’s way of communicating with its community, so members and the board of directors present the program. In addition to club news, they also talk about general themes in Baque culture. The Basque Club Voice can be heard on FM 107.9 mainly on Saturdays from 7:55 to 8:30 (this may change in 2017), or online here: www.emisoraprincipal.com.

6) Zortzi Probintziak, Uztaritze, Lapurdi
Even if it isn’t broadcast in the Diaspora, it is about the Diaspora. 8 Probintziak is broadcast through Gure Irratia in Baiona-Uztaritze, presented by Benoit Etcheverry, accompanied occasionally by Esther Ciganda, or Robert Acheritogaray, plus various guests.
