Astero, the online news bulletin of NABO (North American Basque Organizations) has announced the upcoming tour of the group Noka in Basque Clubs. The singing group consists of three women of Basque descent from Chino, CA: Catherine Petrissans, Andrea Bidart Oteiza & Begoña Echeverria. The tour will kick-off on October 5th, at the Ontario Basque Club, in Oregon. Other performances will take place at Mountain Home (Idaho), at Stanford University and at the Kantari Eguna organized by the Iparreko Ibarra Basque Club in Lincoln, California.

San Francisco, USA.  Astero informs that this tour is part of Gurea, a NABO program dedicated to promote the culture of the local Basque comunity on a periodic basis. The members of Noka --Catherine Petrissans, Andrea Bidart Oteiza & Begoña Echeverria-- are second and third generation Basques, born in the USA. They will be joined by their Basque Country guitarrist Laurent Ascarain.

The tour schedule is the following:

-Friday, October 5: Ontario Basque Center, 300 Depot Lane; Ontario, OR (www.ontariobasqueclub).

-Saturday, October 6: Mountain Home (in conjunction with NABO Fall meeting), America Legion Hall 515 E. 2nd South St., Mountain Home.

-Friday, October 12: Basque Studies at Stanford University, Main Quad Courtyard, 450 Serra Mall, Stanford.

-Saturday, October 13: Iparreko Ibarra (in conjunction  with NABO Kantari Eguna), 65 McBean Park Drive; Lincoln, California.

The group's name derives from the Basque noka form of address among women; it means to speak familiarly or informally to women.

Their show consists of contemporary and traditional Basque songs, including songs of their own composition.  Their concert is supplemented with English translations on PowerPoint slides making the program more accessible and educational. They have performed at various Basque and non-Basque venues, and also in the Basque Country on a recent tour.
