Donostia-San Sebastian. The Encyclopedic Dictionary – Lur and the Lur Encyclopedia can be found respectively at: www.euskara.euskadi.net/Lur-hiztegia and www.euskara.euskadi.net/Lur-entziklopedia. According to a notice from the Basque Government, the corpus of these two published works was acquired three years ago by the Vice-ministry of Linguistic Policy in order to update and digitize its content.
The Encyclopedic Dictionary Lur was originally published in 1991. As a reference it includes ten volumes published in paper between the years of 1990-1995, with more than 49,900 entries. These entries are of three types: exclusively lexical (e.g. "gorri"); lexicon-encyclopedic (e.g. "tximino"), and exclusively encyclopedic (for example, Txilperiko I).
The themed encyclopedia was published in 1999. It includes a general encyclopedia that is comprised of five volumes on the Basque Country and another eight on universal topics:
-Five volumes on Euskal Herria 1. History; 2. Art; 3. Historical atlas; 4. Geography; 5. Literature
-Eight volumes on universal topics 1. Art; 2. Physics; Chemistry; 3. Geography; 4. Social Sciences; 5. History; 6. Natural Sciences; 7. Literature; 8. Mathematics
Only the corpus that was available in paper has been digitized and, from now on, is available on the internet. Both works are available to the public as they were. It should be taken into account that the world is changing very rapidly and not all of the contents have been revised and updated. Therefore, the user must not ignore these points when making inquiries. It should be noted however that the Vice-ministry of Linguistic Policy has adapted 11,000 of these articles for publication in Wikipedia.
The corpus of both works published in paper format was purchased three years ago by the Vice-ministry of Linguistic Policy of the Department of Culture. Its paper version was updated last in 2000-2001, although in 2009, prior to being acquired by the Vice-ministry a series of updates were made such as Euskaltzaindia the Basque Academy of the Language’s spelling rules, newly integrated words into the unified Basque dictionary, as well as the most relevant changes in the world (new countries, new celebrities, new events, major changes in concepts), etc.
