Saturday evening at the Semana Nacional includes a brief review of dances, rehearsed during the year, by the youth at the various Basque clubs. This is their chance to perform what they have been practicing for hours. The effort wasn’t in vain as each group received well-deserved applause. Saturday was also full of applause and recognition of Basque teachers in Argentina who received awards during the Mintzodromo, as well as recognition from Basques in Zubieta.
Necochea, Argentina. As part of the traditional Semana Vasca program, Saturday is usually the day that includes the most activities. The day began at 9am with meetings and runs until dawn, when the music from the dance begins to fade.
That was the main day at Semana Nacional 2016, with a morning full of meetings and an afternoon that included Euskera, Kalejira, Tamborrada and dances. In regards to Euskera, students and teachers participated in the Mintzodromo organized by the hosting club. Afterwards, musicians, dantzaris and companions gathered in front of the Euskal Etxea to start the tamborrada and later go to the Paris Theater in a kalejira. The evening ended at dawn, with the music of Patxi Perez and Emon.
The Tamborrada was led by Tito Picon and gathered drummers from various Basque clubs. The musicians later guided the kalejira to the theater (videos EuskalKultura.com)
