On December 13, the folk group Korrontzi and the dantzaris from the Madrid Euskal Etxea will join to put on a Basque music and dance show at the Circulo Theater of Fine Arts in Madrid to benefit the Stop Sanfilippo Foundation.  Sanfilippo Syndrome is a genetic disease that mainly affects children.  All proceeds will go towards research for a cure for this malady. 

Madrid, Spain.   In recent weeks the Sustrai Dantza Taldea, Madrid’s Basque club dance group has been practicing with much desire and excitlement, getting ready for this Sunday’s show.  It will a special performance along with the folk group Korrontzi as a benefit in favor of the Stop Sanfilippo Foundation.

Korrontzi will present its latest album at the event “Korrontzi dantzan,” a show that unites Basque dance and music and will include the collaboration of the dantzaris from the Madrid Euskal Etxea at the performance.

New Research

The idea to organize this concert came from a visit to the club by Naiara Garcia de Andoin, from Bilbao.  Naiara is the mother of three children who suffer from Sanfilippo Syndrome, a degenerative disease that is comparable to Alzheimer that mainly affects children.  “Naiara talked to us about new research where they had obtained encouraging results in animals and the importance of getting the necessary financing as soon as possible, in a race against the overwhelming progression of the disease,” Monica from the club told us.

After the meeting the club and the Korrontzi group got together to organized this charity concert against Sanfilippo Syndrome.  Korrontzi will present its latest work “Korrontzi dantzan” along with the Sustrai Dantza Taldea on Sunday at the Circulo Theater of Fine Arts in Madrid.

Tras la reunión, Euskal Etxea y el grupo Korrontzi se han unido organizando este concierto solidario contra el Síndrome Sanfilippo. Así, Korrontzi presentará su disco "Korrontzi dantzan" junto con Sustrai Dantza taldea este domingo, en el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid.

“The dance group is very happy and it is a very special performance for us, on the one hand because Agus (from Korrontzi) is a friend, and on the other because choreographer Izaskun was one of our dance teachers,” Sustrai sources told EuskalKultura.com. “Also dancing at the Circulo Theater of Fine Arts is a great way to introduce ourselves to the public in Madrid, and it being a charity event makes it even more special.  We are practicing with much excitement and we are eager for the day to come.”

The show will begin at 19:00 and all proceeds will go to the Stop Sanfilippo Foundation.  Admission is 10 Euros (to purchase here).
