Basque Culture Days at the National Library of Congress in Buenos Aires with the debut of the film “Gernika”

The activity, organized by the Buenos Aires Basque University (UVBA) at the National Library of Congress will take place October 3-7 and will introduce the local audience to an interesting program of activities, including the debut screening of the film Gernika by director Koldo Serra.  It is the fifth edition of this initiative in support of spreading knowledge about this culture “that constitutes a large part of the Argentine culture.” 

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   For the fifth year in a row, the National Library of Congress in Argentina will open its doors to our community thanks to the group “Basque University in Buenos Aires,” that has organized a conference on Basque culture.  The fifth edition of the event will take place October 3-7, with the following program:

-Monday, October 3, 5:30pm: Inauguration, dancing and music provided by the Euskaltzaleak dantzaris and choir.  Presentation of the ensemble “Zutarriak.”  Singing of “Gernikako Arbola” by Kanky Kozameth Ortiz.  6:30pm Basque film presented by Carlos Gabilondo: screening of Amama.

Tuesday, October 4, 6:00pm, debut of the film Gernika, by Koldo Serra, which debuted in the Basque Country last September 9th.  The film will be seen for the first time in Buenos Aires in the micro-cine at the Library of Congress

Wednesday, October 5, 6pm: Talks and workshop 1) “The Changing Climate – Laudato.  His approach from Science.  The Role of the Basques in the Tuyú” Region (Guillermo Villate). 2) Basque-Argentine Libertarians in the Bicentennial of the Homeland (Jose Saldias).

-Friday, October 7, 6pm: Talks and workshop. 1)”The Battle Negated by History: Baldillan (Luis Luquez).  “Sorginak, emakumea eta sukaldea (Witches, Women and Cooking)” (Txarito Naya and Marite Echegoyen).

Besides these activities, there will also be art exhibits by Basque-Argentine artists.  Works by Maria Prats, Julieta Gaztañaga, Susana Iturrioz, Adriana Ramirez, and Maria Silvia Latasa will be exhibited this year.

As Marite Echegoyen, director of the project told EuskalKultura.com, “The conference is now celebrating its fifth year and we hope to have the same impact as in previous years.  Our goal is to bring the culture we inherited from our elders to the most people possible, especially if we consider that the Basque culture constitutes a large part of the Argentinean culture.”  “As always, we count on specialists.  Among other Basque culture references, Sara Pagola, Delegate of Euskadi will also attend along with the Director of Institutional Relations at the delegation, Mariana Satostegui; President of Euskaltzaleak, Teresa Zavaleta; and Professor Luis Luquez,” according to Echegoyen.

The Basque Cultural Days will take place at the National Library of Congress, located on Alsina 1835, it is open to the public and admission is free.
