Donostia-San Sebastián. April 26th marked the 82nd anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika by German aviators, allied with General Franco turning the Bizkaian village of Gernika to ash, a traditional symbol of Basque identify and freedoms. Every year, on this date, Basques, descendants of Basques and friends of Euskal Herria join from the Diaspora to commemorate this fateful day with many events and gatherings, all with an unmistakable message of peace and reconciliation.
Many Basque clubs around the world have taken the responsibility to mark in Aproñ 1937, spreading their knowledge, so that actions of this type do not happen again. Awareness activities multiply, from Germany to other cities and towns in South America.
New photo gallery, with some of these activities in Argentina, Uruguay and Germany.
