More than ten thousand kilometers from the Pyrenees and the Basque community in Argentina did great work when creating Basque atmosphere in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires. With the participation of Basque clubs from all over the country, there was no shortage of means to achieve this. During the entire day, the Avenida de Mayo was full of dancing, music, Euskera, food, sports, literature and traditional dress, among other Basque Country cultural and symbolic elements.
Buenos Aires, Argentina. The main goal of the festival is to show and experience the Basque Country and culture to the community of Buenos Aires, and this year, as in prior editions, the goal was reached and more. “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” which in 2016 celebrates its 5th edition, gets bigger every year thanks to the hard work of its organizers, the Laurak Bat Basque club, as well as that done by participating Basque clubs.
The huge festival in Buenos Aires once again left a great impression, not only among the locals, but also among Basques from Europe that either for work or leisure reasons are in the country and joined in the festivities. “We are taken aback” or “we weren’t expecting this,” were some of the remarks heard from so many locals and visitors.
It isn’t easy to show what was experienced last Sunday with some 20 pictures; we know that there are moments that aren’t included in this summary, and keep in mind that the event ran from noon to 6pm. But we want to share this selection of photos and images and videos with our readers (see videos Zutarriak-trikitixa-Ixilik and part of the Tamborrada) to leave a record of “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” 2016.
