Salt Lake City, Utah. Basque-American dantzari, Cirbie Sangroniz, united Basque and American tradition on May 22 during a performance by the Utahko Triskalariak at the Living Traditions Festival in Salt Lake City. Cirbie, the group’s director, had the help and support of all the dantzaris that at one point in the performance chose her girlfriend, Amanda to join them on stage.
In front of the surprised Amanda, Cirbie danced probably the most meaningful Aurresku of her life, to end on one knee to propose to her girlfriend, among the shouts of surprise and the applause of the public. The rest of the dancers, holding hands, also excitedly watched the moment of suspense, until the stunned Amanda managed to recover from the surprise and say yes.
The Utah Basque Club congratulated the couple that is a very active part of the Basque community in Utah. The club has been through some very exciting weeks, with this unforgettable declaration in the middle of the Living Traditions Festival, the recent ascent of Everest by one of its members, and preparing for their performances in Washington DC at the Basque Folklife Festival, to get back just in time to host NABO’s Udaleku, children’s summer camp. Segi horrela, Utah!
Following is a video of this beautiful moment. We have known Cirbie at EuskalKultura.com since she was a child and we share in her joy. Zorionak Cirbie and Amanda!
