Jose C. Paz, Argentina. Jose Clemente Paz was born in 1842 in Buenos Aires, in the heart of a prestigious family. With training that placed him apart from his contemporaries, he founded the daily, La Prensa in 1869 and was a politician and diplomat in Madrid and Paris. These were some of the reasons, no doubt, that motivated Jose Vicente Altube to give his friend’s name to the lands located in greater Buenos Aires, 35 km northwest of the capital.
On July 13, the community celebrated its 100th birthday with a tribute in the town’s mains square. After placing a wreath, a few words were spoken to the crowd that subsequently made its way to the Basque club where there was a cocktail in honor of Mayor Carlos Urquiaga, members of the Altube family and a group of representatives from various institutions including: Historical Museum José Altube, Polyphonic Choir Nelly Altube, Club Leones, Rotary Club, Sarmiento Japanese Association, Ministry of Culture, Volunteer firefighters, aid centers, the Artisan club Altube and the club El Porvenir.

Relating to other business, and always with the goal of making the culture of Euskal Herria known, Mariana Fernandez Castelli gave a talk on July 6, at Toki Eder, on Basque geography. “Through photos, many of them taken by the speaker, one could cross rivers, mountains, foress, coasts and plateaus of our beloved land. The variety and beauty of the landscapes delighted us and allowed us to remember, nostalgically, our experiences and our own homes. We would especially like to thank Mariana for her availability,” said Toki Ona member Maria Angeles Oñederra to EuskalKultura.com.
