La Plata, Argentina. Tomorrow, June 9th the Euzko Etxea will celebrate the 6th edition of its Paella Contest with the participation of a group of sukaldaris (chefs) from the club’s peñas, as well as guest chef including the Casal of Catalonia. The jury will award three groups, first, second and third. The ovens will fire up in the afternoon, but the public is invited to come around 9pm.
Traditional Music
Joining the already wide array of cultural offerings at the club, in June there will be a workshop on Traditional Basque Instruments that will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 19-12:00 at the clubhouse. The workshop will be taught by music professor, Iñaki Esquiroz, the voice of the Zutarriak folkloric group.
Agreements
Since the beginning of the year, the Euzko Etxea has created a series of agreements with different characteristics. The latest agreement was with the Casal of Catalan Countries in La Plata that aims to provide a framework for projects that both institutions are carrying out jointly. In the words of club authorities, “In the last few years we have shared activities, they participate in our events, and we participate in theirs; the idea is to continue to share various kinds of cultural events and spaces for the debate for the ight to decide the future of both the Basque Country and Catalonia.
Another agreement was signed with the National University of La Plata to work together with the presidency of UNLP as well as with the various colleges. In this context, with the College of Agriculture a survey of the club’s sports field is being conducted, and with Fine Arts a project is being carried out for a mural on the front of the clubhouse.
Agreements were also signed to incorporate children from the area into club activities. These agreements are with the Institutes for Minors Joaquin V. Gonzalez, and Bernardino Rivadavia, that are near the clubhouse. The agreements allow children from there to participate in the club’s sporting and cultural activities for free.
The Euzko Etxea will also sign an agreement to create a Basque Culture Chair at the University of the East. This signing will take place on June 14th (more information on this agreement, in a separate article here).
