The event consists of two parts: the official inaugural ceremony and a toast.  Both will take place at the clubhouse that has been recently recycled on Alerdi Street 169 in Viedma, and will be attended by authorities from the provinces of Buenos Aires and Rio Negro.  Once the clubhouse has been opened, the first event to take place there will be Aberri Eguna on April 5. 

Viedma, Argentina.  Members and friends of the Basque community in Viedma, in the Province of Rio Negro and of Carmen de Patagones in the province of Buenos Aires, aren’t getting much rest this summer.  But their efforts were worth it though, since after months of hard work, they will officially inaugurate their new Basque clubhouse on March 28 with a double ceremony.

On the one hand, there will be an official ceremony that will include the presentation of the Argentine and Basque flags with the club’s choir singing the Argentine and Basque National anthems.”  In addition there will be addresses, a ribbon cutting and a blessing by Bishop Laxague from Bahia Blanca. Local authorities will also be present as well as those from the provinces of Rio Negro and Buenos Aires.  After the event, there will be a toast, followed by entertainment by the club’s choir and dancers.

With the enthusiasm of those who are ready to enjoy their new space, the Beti Aurrera Aberri Etxea has already set the date to celebrate Aberri Eguna.  The event will take place on April 5 and will include a celebration lunch.  “We are living some very special moments for the club, full of projects,” said club president Maria del Carmen Elzaurdia.  “We want to begin enjoying our clubhouse as soon as possible, and we will begin in April, that is to say with dance and Basque classes, choir practice and maybe even a txistu workshop…” she told EuskalKultura.com.

The community has already started the countdown for the big day.  This will not prevent Beti Aurrera Aberri Etxea from fulfilling its habitual events on the calendar, such as March 7, when it will participate in the Patagonian Sovereignty Festival Parade as it does every year.
