Basque Institutional and business trips to Mexico and Cuba. Today, kick off for the 34th edition of the International Fair of Havana, FIHAV, with the participation of some 30 Basque companies, the majority from Gipuzkoa. Last week an institutional and business delegation from Gipuzkoa visited Mexico. It was led by Provincial Deputy of Economic Promotion, Ainhoa Aizpuru.  This week the action takes place in Havana, with a program that includes visiting with the president and members of Euskal Etxea of Cuba. 

Havana, Cuba.   Today the 34th edition of the International Fair of Havana, Cuba (FIHAV 2016) begins, with the participation of a delegation of Basque institutions and businesses, led by the Chambers of Commerce of Gipuzkoa, Araba and Bizkaia, with the support of the Department of Economic Development and Competency of the Basque Government as well as the Provincial Governments.

The Basque delegation will be in the Basque Pavilion where a total of 32 Basque businesses will hold various meetings to study the possibilities of Business in this Caribbean country, especially in the areas of energy, motors, manipulation of fluids and hotel equipment. In addition, the Basque companies will meet with the local Basque community and have a get together with representatives of the Euskal Etxea in Havana, one of the oldest in the world.

FIHAV, is the perfect fair for these Basque companies to gain entry into the country, or in order to make contacts with all of the Cuban companies that are their clients, or potential clients, since all Cuban State enterprises as well as all of the importers who are authorized to conduct Business abroad will be present.

With Basque companies in Mexico

Last week the delegation from Gipuzkoa began its institutional and business mission in Mexico, led by the Deputy for Economic Development, Rural and Territorial Balance of Gipuzkoa, Ainhoa Aizpuru.  The expedition gathered 20 Basque companies established, or wishing to become established in Mexico.  During the meeting, representatives from established companies, shared their experiences and concerns along with their needs.  

Along with the Provincial Deputy, Antton Tomasena, Director for Economic Promotion also participated along with the Director of the Chamber of Commerce of Gipuzkoa, Endika Sanchez, and the Director for Business Development and Internationalization of the Chamber of Gipuzkoa, Amaia Ferro.  Also attending was the director general of SPRI, Alex Arriola, and the Operational Manager of SPRI, Jorge Fernandez, as well as the Basque Government’s director of business in Mexico, Irakusne Incierte.

This event is part of the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa’s Economic Reactivation Plan, aimed at maintaining closer relationships with business, helping Gipuzkoan businesses abroad, and helping expand the Gipuzkoan market around the world.

According to Provincial Government sources, Mexico is the country that has the most Gipuzkoan businesses abroad.  Many of these have been supported by programs at the Provincial Government.  Until now, the expansion of Gipuzkoan businesses in Mexico has taken place with the support of 17 production plants, 47 commercial launches, and 198 companies supported by tractor projects by the Provincial Government.
