Cordoba, Argentina. The agreement signed last Friday, March 1st by FEVA President, Ricardo Basterra and the Dean of the College of Languages at the UNC, Dr. Silvia Barei, inaugurates a new framework for Basque language instruction in “La Docta.” The meeting took place at the university and was also attended by FEVA’s secretary Marta Abarrategui, university professor Guillermo Badenes and teachers from the Gerora Association, Elba Mocoroa and Noe Fernandez. We would like to remind you that this, as all Basque activities in FEVA area also supported by HABE.
“An opening for non-traditional languages has been noted for some time at the university, for lack of a better word. In recent years languages such as Hebrew, Quechua, Chinese, Piedmontese and Arabic have been added. It was in this context that the possibility of including Basque arose,” as explained from Cordoba. “These classes are not part of a degree program and so are open to the public,” explained Elba Mocoroa.
After signing the agreement, the first meeting to address questions related to courses will take place next week. “We have a month to get organized since classes begin in April.” “This is an important step because is a very good start for Basque and Basque culture in Cordoba that is full of young people who constantly attend the Cultural Department in the College of Languages. We want to emphasize the great reception that we have received at the University and that FEVA presented the Dean with an ikurriña at the signing,” said Mocoroa and Fernandez.
