Trenque Lauquen, Argentina. The Basque community in Trenque Lauquen celebrated another Basque club anniversary with the usual enthusiasm and joy, and with good reason. One the one hand they just finished remodeling the clubhouse, and on the other they are planning a range of activities for the coming months that will allow them to go out into the community and continue their never-ending task of sharing their culture.
On June 25th the club will host a San Juan bonfire in the city’s railroad yard. As part of the festivities, the dancers will perform and there will be games and concessions and to close the celebration, there will be the burning of an effigy. On September 5th, Euskal Sustraiak will welcome Magdalena Mignaburu who will exhibit, “Gure Arropa – Our Clothes,” along with the presentation of her book Patria Vasca en Argentina. Un siglo de Nacionalismo vasco.
The club also announced that in October, maybe on the 18th, they will hold the 6th edition of the Festival of Ham, where diners will enjoy an excellent selection of cold cuts and sausages, as well as have a good time in a completely Basque atmosphere.
16th Anniversary
The Euskal Sustraiak 16th Anniversary celebration took place May 24th, on the night before the Day of the Argentine Homeland. The dantzaris were in charge of entertainment, thanks to their new director, Lucia Sanchez, who opened the dinner with Aurresku and later they performed Arcos.

Although this wasn’t the only show of the night, since the local duo Vitale-Sanchez did their song and dance for the public to the rhythm of many styles. In addition, there were gifts for guests and as always, a toast by club officials.
Alejandra Bengochea, club teacher, told EuskalKultura.com that she is currently teaching Basque on Thursdays and Saturdays from 15-17:00. “This year we had to create a Saturday group requested by the dantzaris, who are very interested in learning. They have raised the need to know greetings, words and how to talk about something, because they have met dancers from other clubs and have realized how important it is to know Basque,” says Bengochea.
