“Palabra de Vasco” (Word of a Basque) will return to the airwaves on June 3, on Wednesdays at 5pm with Laura Nobile. With a similar structure to that of previous years, the central theme will be the Basque culture and community news. The novelty, however, will be its new time. “We had to make the change because of the number of listeners from the Basque Country, Nobile explained to EuskalKultura.com.
Arrecifes, Argentina. Many lovers of the radio and the Basque culture were expecting it. Finally, after intense efforts to find the right time of day for listeners on both shores, the “Palabra de Vasco,” program that began in 2008 at the heart of the Euskaldunak Denak Bat in Arrecifes, will return on June 3 ad 5pm, with Laura Nobile at the helm. The difference from previous seasons is that Nobile will be alone but as she explains, “there will be visitors, interviews, chosen according to each program’s theme.”
As a teaser, the club member let us know that the first program will include Mariana Domine and Maria del Carmen Rodriguez who were her colleagues on the program in prior editions and who won’t be able to accompany her this year, due to the new time.
The topics to be discussed are linked to various manifestations of Basque culture, from Euskera, music, literatura and cooking to the origins of last names, geography or History. There will also be news, from the Basque Country as well as the Diaspora, and Euskaldunak Denak Bat, guests, interviews and of course, a special place for listeners’ participation, again which justifies the time change.
“It was necessary to change the time for our listeners in the Basque Country, because of the time gap, which right now is five hours, and so it is difficult for them to hear us live. Even though we had some followers, we decided to extend the ties of friendship that was the focus when we traveled to the Basque Country in 2013 and we met some of them in person. We met via Facebook, and then from word of mouth between friends; then through messages on social media and they interacted with us during the program. We even received calls from them on the air. They listen to us and are astonished because they can’t believe that the Basque culture is being kept alive so far away; they value and appreciate it,” Laura Nobile explains.
The new time is 5pm, “Palabra de Vasco” will be aired every Wednesday on Radio Latina 98.1 FM in Arrecifes but also online: www.fmlatina981.com.ar. To contact the show wrote to palabradevasco@gmail.com or on Facebook: Palabra de Vasco.
Zorionak to Laura and her collaborators at Euskaldunak Denak Bat on your return to the airwaves and the internet. Good luck on your new season!
