It will be the third time in a row that the Guillermo Larregui Basque club travels to the Basque Country to visit the most significant tourist destinations on both sides of the Pyrenees. The group will leave from Buenos Aires in September 2016 and will stay for two weeks in the old country. Even if organizational meetings won’t begin until January, the list of interested travelers has already reach 15.
Chacabuco, Argentina. The trip by the group from the Chacabuco Basque club took place at the end of last month. The delegation was accompanied on the entire trip by club president, Pablo Pavesa. In his words, “the trip is an incredible experience but more than that, I was struck by people’s attitudes and how excellent they were, even if in many cases they weren’t of Basque origin or knew anything about the Basque Country.”
Very enthused by the experience of this second organized trip from the club, it is already organizing its third outing for September of next year. “It will be very similar to this year’s; we will visit the most significant places in both Hegoalde and Iparralde and will have some free time so that travelers can do what they want or get together with their own families. More details will be made available in January since the 19th of that month is marked for the first informational meeting. The meeting will begin at 21:00 at the Chacabuco clubhouse and anyone interested is invited to come,” Pavesa said. Even if there are still two months until the meeting, the provisional list of travelers already includes more than 15 names.
“A Fantastic Experience”
These words describe not only the trip but also the participants as well as those who organized it. The date chosen for 2015 was slated for fall, when it will again take place in 2016. In regards to the route, and according to Pavesa, it included representative places in the country. They visited places in Bizkaia like: Bilbo, Gernika, Bermeo and Gaztelugatze, in Gipuzkoa: Donostia, Hondarribia and Tolosa; and in Nafarroa: Baraibar and Iruña-Pamplona, in Lapurdi-Iparralde, Donibane Lohizune, Biarritz, Ezpeleta, Azkaine and Sara.
“We really enjoyed ourselves on the trip and it filled us with much joy. But above all, we were happy to see the reaction of the people upon their return. The group included people who were not even members of the club and they loved what they saw in the Basque Country. It is more, these trips become something new in the city, and once word got out about the next trip, we already have more than 15 signed up to go. This is an advantage for the club since those who traveled are already participating actively in our activities and now they know more about our community,” the club president stressed.
