On Sunday afternoon, Mountain Home, Idaho celebrated the Basque run Korrika in support of the Basque language. The 3-mile run was organized by the local Euskal Lagunak Basque Club. About sixty people of all ages and from different parts of the state gathered at the Mountain Home Basque Park to run or walk in honor of the Basque language. It was followed by a social hour and a potluck style picnic. "It was the first time Korrika took place here, and we are happy, we got a nice response," organizers said to EuskalKultura.com.

Mountain Home, USA. The Basque run Korrika came to Mountain Home, Idaho on April 17th, 2011, just as Korrika in the Basque country was wrapping up. The 3-mile run was organized by the Mountain Home Basque Club, Euskal Lagunak, and was intended to mirror the efforts of participants in the Basque Country who have been running for the last two weeks in support of the Basque language. The Korrika in Mountain Home followed the Korrika celebration in San Francisco on Saturday, and it will be followed by the Boise run on April 30th.

A group of about sixty people gathered at the Basque Park in Mountain Home to participate in the walk/run. Registration started at noon, and by 2:00 PM everyone had warmed up and was ready to take their place on the starting line. Before Korrika began, all the participants posed in front of the Ikurrina mural for a group photo. It will be a special photo, as this is the first time Korrika was celebrated in Idaho.

The Korrika participants made their way back to the park after they run or walked the 3-mile course. Water and a re-energizing snack of bananas and cereal bars were provided by Euskal Lagunak to hold the runners over until 4 PM, when the potluck style picnic was scheduled to start. The participants were asked to bring a food item to share after the run. Txorizos were also provided by Euskal Lagunak Basque Club.
