Aberri Eguna was celebrated last Sunday in the Basque Country and in various parts of the Diaspora, like Havana, Caracas, Sydney, New York and Miami among others.  The celebration has a long tradition among Basques around the world, and this weekend it will be celebrated in Santiago, Chile, Montreal, Las Vegas and in Argentina in Olavarria, Villa Maria and Cordoba, among others.  On April 17, one of the last event will take place in Rio Cuarto, Argentina.  Following are photos and videos of what has taken place up in some of them to now.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  Basque clubs in the Diaspora join are joining once again on the Aberri Eguna celebration, although in some cases with a gap of one or two weeks in relarion to Euskadi.  The celebration of the Basque Homeland is traditionally celebrated on Easter Sunday and that’s what they did for example in Caracas, Venezuela where the Eusko Etxea hasn’t missed the date since 1939, when it celebrated its first Aberri Eguna with the arrival of the first exiles from the War of ’36.

The festivities in Caracas began with mass celebrated by Aita Miguel Odriozola, a tribute to the Ikurriña and the Venezuelan flag, and an Aurresku.  Following there were several pelota matches played at the fronton followed by dinner prepared by a team led by Maria Teresa Ballatori Arteaga and Clever Ramirez.

In New York, the Basque club gathered several friends at the clubhouse in Brooklyn and they sent us this original video that shows how the evening went, in a time-lapse of only 3 minutes.

Further south, in Florida, the Euskal Etxea in Miami took advantage of the good weather to celebrate Aberri Eguna with a picnic at the lake.  The event attracted 150 people, club members and many friends.  “We had visitors from places like Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, the US, Cuba, Chile, Salvador, Venezulea, Peru, Euskadi and various communities from the Iberian Peninsula (Galicia, Asturias, Catalonia, La Mancha, New Castilla both new and old, Andalucia and Levante).  It was a beautiful day at the lake with food, drink and friends.  What else could we ask for?” Boni Guenechea told EuskalKultura.com.

Further south yet, in Cuba, the Havana Basque club also gathered nearly 200 members and friends and enjoyed the beautiful day with a meal. The celebration also included a Korrika with participants of all ages showing that the Basques in Cuba stay in shape.
