Brussels, Belgium. The program for Basque week in Brussels has been been celebrating in the European capital since last Saturday in Saint Gilles. Although the inaugural concert by Kepa Junkera had to be cancelled due to his hospitalization, a hug and best wishes for a speedy recovery Kepa, many other activities took place as planned. This afternoon Professor Marijose Olaziregi from the University of the Basque Country will give a talk entitled, “Not from Latin Origin, Celtic or Germanic, Euskera is without a doubt the Oldest Language in Western Europe.” The talk will be in Spanish with French translation, and will begin at 7pm at the Casa Pelgrims (Rue Parme, 69, 1060 Saint-Gilles).
On Saturday, Jean-Louis Bergara and his friends --the group 'Hiruak'-- will provide music and entertainment along with traditional Basque songs at the Bruselako Euskal Etxea (Rue Fernand Bernier 10, 1060 Saint-Gilles) complete with a workshop on Basque music and dance. There will also be a potluck dinner to close the week’s festivities.
