Pau, France. EIZIE has organized another edition of its annual translating workshop, aiming to support the translation of Basque into other languages. This year the workshop, with some new additions, will take place for the first time in France, thanks to the agreement of collaboration singed last year between Etxepare Basque Institute and the EIZIE. The workshop was also organized with the collaboration of LLC-Arc Atlantique at the Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour.
Various translations of the story Katu jendea by Eider Rodriguez, will take place at the workshop.
-André Gabastou (who translates Bernardo Atxaga into French) will base his translation into French on Gatos, the Spanish translation done by Eider Rodriguez.
-Henrike Olasolo and Peter Smaardij, from the Danish publisher Zirimiri Press, will translate the story from Basque to Dutch
-Joana Pochelu and Gabi Schwab will translate the story from its original Basque to French and German respectively.
Recital at the Castle in Pau
Eider Rodriguez will give two talks during the workshop that will talk about her work. The first is entitled, “Amy Winehouse-ren ama” (Amy Whinehouse’s mother) and the second, on the process of translating her book into Spanish entitled, “Autotraizioaz” (Self-betrayal).
The workshop will conclude on October 18 with a recital that will include the reading of the various translations accompanied by music. The recital will take place at the Castle of Henri IV in Pau at 15:00 and is open to the public. The event will be attended by Mari Jose Olaziregi, director of Euskera at the Etxepare Institute along with authorities of the University of Pau.
