Valencia, Venezuela. University officials and other from the Basque community unveiled a plaque and a stele of honor at the President’s office at the University of Carabobo in honor of its first president (1892-1900), Basque descendant Alejo Zuloaga Eguzquiza. Presiding at the event was current President, Jessy Divo de Romero and the president of the Carabobo Basque Club, Illargi Uzcanga. Others attending included other university officials, deans, directors and other personalities, union members and representatives from the Federation of Basque Clubs in Venezuela and Carabobo, according to the newspaper “Tiempo Universitario.”
The initiative is part of the “Rutas de los Baskos in Venezuela,” that aims to divulge” the fundamental values of the Basque people, whose beautiful achievements, we need to share, especially in this time of moral crisis,” according to the local Basques.
