Viña del Mar, Chile. Just a year after COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO, the situation in South America in this moment, although stable, continues to be serious. Some countries, like Chile, are making progress with vaccinations, but are simultaneously concerned by the contagion rate that remains high. In this context, cultural associations have not been able to return to their usual routines, nor have the Basque clubs.
In these difficult times, the Euzko Etxea Basque Club in Viña del Mar-Valparaiso is getting ready for 2021 with a calendar full of virtual options, with the possibility of expansion in the case that they are able to reopen their in person offerings at the clubhouse.
Euskera classes during the new year will begin virtually on Tuesday, March 30th, taught by Leire Martinez de Luco on Zoom. There will be a beginning first level class, and level 2 for anyone who is continuing from before. For more information, or to enroll, email euzkoetxeavinadelmar@gmail.com.
New Dance Opportunities
In the area of dance, two neskak of the club are attending virtual classes that are part of “Dantza Munduan,” taught from the Basque Country by the Aiko Taldea. The club explained to EuskalKultura.eus that once the health situation normalizes, they hope to create workshops at the clubhouse as well as at some schools of the local Educational Foundation Father Kepa Bilbao Laca.
In regards to these, he club made a donation to the Rebeca Fernandez school, a member of the Foundation on March 12th. On this occasion the Basque club presented them with three tablets as well as covering six months of internet for them.
