Chacabuco, Argentina. Excited by the wonderful experience in 2014, club president, Pablo Pavesa, once again organized a trip this September to the Basque Country. The event was very well-received and the group is now full with 27 people.
“Unfortunately, we had a great response, not only among club members, but above all, among people who are not members. This is a very positive sing for us since these people, because of the trip, have begun associating with the club and participating in it as well,” Pavesa told EuskalKultura.com.
The president of the Guillermo Larregui club explained that they will arrive in Bilbao where the group will spend three nights, from where they will also visit Bermeo, Gernika, and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. The next stop will be Donostia where they will move to various places such as Baraibar, Iruña-Pamplona and Iparralde. The tour will conclude on October 7 in Vitoria-Gasteiz where the group will meet with participants of the International Congress of Basque Collectivities that will take place that week there. The final four days in Europe will be spent in Italy.
“As the word got around, there were people who wanted to join in but we had to make a deadline to sign up so that we could closet he reservations for the various activities. Anyway, since the waiting list is long, we haven’t given up the idea to possibly organize another trip next year,” the club president said.
Upcoming activities
On the other hand, the club has also published the program of activities that, as in other years, is rather large. Today, May 8 the first Basque Taberna of the year will be held with food and typical dishes with dancing provided by the club dancers of all ages.
On May 16, there will be a Rotary Club event, “Pizzas and Games,” to benefit various local institutions. On May 20, there will be a film at Guillermo Larregi. Carlos Gabilondo, who is in charge of the traveling films, will show Ocho apellidos vascos. On the same occasion his future stops will also be announced.
On June 6 and 7, the Regional Mus Tournament will be held. On June 20 the club will also celebrate its 26th anniversary with a big dinner.
Besides these activities, this year the city will celebrate its 150th anniversary and invites institutions to relevant activities to celebrate. Even if dates are not yet confirmed, the idea is to invite the Centro Navarro from Buenos Aires to do something together. We have many activities and have a had a great response from the people – for the Mus tournament, without going much further, we have several teams registered – and that fill us with expectations,” Pavesa said.
