Officials from the State of Nevada’s Office of Economics are currently visiting Bizkaia to find out more about the territory’s potential in electrical and automotive sectors.  The Deputy General stressed that the visit was spurred by their first contact that took place last July in Washington DC during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  Unai Rementeria has ensured that the provincial government continues to work to add new international visitors and promote opportunities for generating economic activity and employment.

Bilbao, Bizkaia.  According to the Provincial Government in a note, Unai Rementeria welcomed officials in the area of economics and foreign trade yesterday from the State of Nevada, Jarad Van Wagoner, and Kris Sanchez, who began their visit, of a business nature, to Bizkaia.  Their visit hopes to find out more aobut the potential of the territory, especially in the electrical and automotive sectors.

The meeting with Rementeria followed another work meeting where the Deputy General was also a participate along with the Deputy for Provincial Economic Development, Imanol Pradales, and representatives from companies in the electrical sector like Arteche, Iberdrola, Ormazabal, Gamesa and Ingeteam.  In fact, during their visit, they are also scheduled to visit some of these companies to explore mutual business, investment and collaborative opportunities. They will also visit the Automotive Intelligence Center, AIC, “at the international forefront in promoting the competitiveness of automotive companies thanks to a system based on a model of innovation and cooperation.”

The Deputy General recalled that last July the Provincial Government made their first contact with the State of Nevada during the celebration of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC.  Rementeria stressed that after this meeting Nevada decided to come to get to know Bizkaia: “This visit is very important because Nevada and Bizkaia share future challenges like energy and the automobile.  They are very interested in renewables.  The most important part of this visit is that the State of Nevada gets to know us with their own eyes.  The bottom line is that the Provincial Government has ensured that these representatives will visit Bizkaian companies.  Energy companies like Gamesa, Ormazabal, Arteche, Ingeteam, the Technological Park in Zamudio or the AIC, in Boroa.”

The US is a strategic market for the future of Bizkaia and its companies.  This was established during the high-level meetings that took place in Washington DC this summer, where the province could present a structured offer and the high value in sectors of interest to the authorities and US companies, such as smart grids (intelligent networks), and renewables.  The State of Nevada is now in Bizkaia to get to know their potential and another visit is envisaged in October from officials from the State of Idaho in the areas of energy, security and environment for the same purpose.

The Deputy General expressed his desire that these visits revert into opportunities, to generate economic activity and employment:  “The goal of the Provincial Government during this year is to have more visits like this one from Nevada.  They have to meet us, and visit us and have to see the potential of Bizkaia and its companies with their own eyes.  Let’s hope that these visits will generate opportunities to create economic activity and quality employment,” he concluded.
