Nampa, Idaho, USA. The course will analyze the Basques of the Basque Country focusing also on the Diaspora in the American West, and will touch on topics such as the historical context of the Foruak, the political problems related to a nation that is not a nation-state, the forces of migration, Basque nationalism, cultural topics such as food, dance, music and festivals, gender and roles, challenges related to preserving a historical version of Basque identity while adapting and embracing the current era...The course also aims to offer a space for students to research their own Basque heritage, if that is the case.
Nikki Gorrell, who has conducted more than a decade of workshops for Basque Studies at BSU had worked at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise will teach the course. She is currently a professor and teaches courses in Cultural Anthropology at the College of Western Idaho.
