A conference on Basque Culture begins today at the Library of the Argentinean Congress in Buenos Aires

The Cultural Center of the Library of the Argentinean National Congress in Buenos Aires will host a conference on Basque culture today through September 27. The event will include talks, workshops and film showings along with an exhibition of Basque artists. Conference opening will take place at 18:00 with the singing of Gernikako Arbola in the company of representatives of the Basque Government and that of the Basque-Argentinean community.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The Basque Culture conference will include a permanent exhibit of Basque artists in the Diaspora.  The inauguration will take place today at 6pm at the Cultural Center of the Biblioteca del Congreso (Alsina 1835, CABA) with Basque and Argentinean representatives present.  Kanky Kuzemel Ortiz will sing Gernikako Arbola and the first film showing, Aupa Etxebeste directed by Asier Altuna and Telmo Esnal, will take place following at 6:30.

Friday, September 13 -  at 6pm the first workshop on Basque Mythology will take place coordinated by Txarito Naya, followed by a talk on Basque composer, Maurice Ravel, by Jorge Beramendi.

Monday, September 16 – a selection of Basque shorts from Kimuak will be shown again at 6:30pm, preceding the feature-length film Sukalde Kontuak (Kitchen Secrets) (2009) directed by Aizpea Goenaga.

Friday, September 20 - at 6pm there will be a workshop on Basque Gastronomy coordinated by Marité Echegoyen, followed by a talk on Basque Literature by Carlos Irisarri.

Monday, September 23 – again at 6:30 nine titles from Kimuak will be shown followed by full-length film Kutsidazu bidea, Ixabel (Show me the Way, Isabel) (2006) directed by Fernando Bernues and Mireia Gabilondo.

Friday, September 27 – the final session will take place along with the closing events.  Dr. Damián Cebey will give a talk on “The Navy of the Basque Country,” and Professor Luis H. Luquez will talk about “Basques in Newfoundland.”  Following,, at approximately 7:30pm the conference will close with a performance by the Euskaltzaleak Choir from Buenos Aires with the participation of Basque writer, Harkaitz Cano.
