Liverpool, England. According to the Etxepare Basque Institute the University of Liverpool will celebrate a new edition of Iberian Week starting today. The goal of this week is to learn about the languages that are spoken on the peninsula, and in order to do so, various activities relating to Basque, Galician and Catalan cultures take place.
In addition to lectures and conferences that will take place this week, it is also worth mentioning the projections of documentaries and poetry readings that are also scheduled. In this regard, the organization has counted on support from institutions such as the Etxepare Basque Institute, Cervantes Institute, Institute Ramon Llull and the ¡Viva! Spanish & Latin American Film Festival.
Program of Events:
MONDAY 11TH
11.00-13.00: Projection of the film Bertsolari followed by an improvisation workshop by the Basque oral poet Itxaso Paya (Rendall. Seminar Room 124. D2 in the campus map)
TUESDAY 12TH
10.00-13.00: Screening of the film Machuca followed by a discussion with the Chilean activist Apolo Santana, survivor of the coup and member of Allende´s government (SACE12 WBSR. E4 in the campus map)
16.00-18.00: Oral poetry performance: Sizen Yiacoup's ‘Introduction to Medieval Iberian Poetry’ and Roger Wright´s Castilian Ballads followed by a Basque music performance by Itxaso Paya (BLUECOAT) (Find it here)
